ATTENTION
Aspiring Theatre Artists (and parents of Aspiring Theatre Artists!) Road Less Traveled Productions (RLTP), WNY’s most progressive and exciting production company, is now accepting applications to the RLTP Summer Institute,  the flagship program of our ongoing Education Initiative.

RLTP’s Summer Institute offers two great classes during the Summer of 2013: Summer Fundamentals (intended for students ages 11-16) and Audition Prep & Scene Study (ages 16-19).

RLTP Summer Institute classes are held at the Road Less Traveled Theater – an active and fully outfitted professional live theatre space.

SUMMER FUNDAMENTALS
This comprehensive introduction to Theatre and Drama provides young theatregoers and budding Theatre practitioners (ages 11-16) instruction in solo and ensemble acting, theatre history, storytelling & playwriting, and design basics.

Students split each day of this intensive three-week summer session between engaging in active skill-building exercises and hands-on, dynamic Master Classes, hosted by several of Buffalo’s most seasoned theatre professionals.

Through exciting acting exercises, theatre games, and mini-projects, students actively learn about:

Voice
Movement
Improvisation
Storytelling
Styles of Acting
Characterization
(How to invent, build, research, and/or develop a character)
Rehearsal Techniques
(How to prepare to play a role; how to memorize lines)
Collaboration/Teamwork
(Working in an ensemble; working with directors and other actors)

Instruction also is provided on the following topics, often featuring prominent professional guest artists from the WNY theatre community:

A Brief History of Theatre

Theater Geography
(A tour of a professional theatre space)
Introduction To Drama
Direction: What Does The Director Do?
Principles of Design
Lighting, Sound, Set Design & Construction, Wardrobe, Stage Management
Introduction To Playwriting

Students are introduced to all aspects of the theatre profession in this expansive survey, while they simultaneously develop and improve upon basic performance skills in a non-competitive and fun collaborative environment. Individual students are encouraged to focus on aspects of the theatrical production process that appeal most to them, based on their interests and on their previous experience (if any).

The three-week long program culminates in a final presentation, open to family and friends, in the form of a short ensemble dramatic production that students have helped conceive and execute.

AUDITION PREPARATION & SCENE STUDY

This advanced course for older and more experienced students (ages 16-19) helps develop and improve skills essential to auditioning, in both academic and professional environments. Students learn strategies for presenting highly effective, polished, and impressive Audition pieces, and learn to efficiently read, analyse, and interpret scenes for “cold reads” (a common challenge in many audition scenarios).
